Seven members of the Team left early this morning on their way to Safari. The remainder spent the day relaxing and shopping in Moshi. Those that didn’t go on Safari have checked in at Kilimanjaro International for the first leg of their flight home.
The Team has had a long walk down and they are now in Bristol Cottages enjoying showers and cold beer. Congratulations to everyone of the Team it is a great achievement.
It has been a very emotional but fantastic experience for all the Team. Alitude sickness has claimed some more people so not all the Team has managed to make it to the top, but what an incredible achievement to get as far as they have.
They are all back at Camp now having lunch. They will then set off for Millennium Camp which is a change to the schedule. It is a shorter trek today. This means a longer trek tomorrow back to Moshi. This will be their last night under canvass.
I received a text at 6:36 our time! The Team are packing up and heading for Base Camp – Barafu Camp – with the intention of trying for the summit tonight!! They are all feeling well.
On a more personal not this is a message for Jeremy from Gillian, she is “missing you and feeling well. Take care. xx”
They arrived at Base Camp at 14:54 our time after a short but tough trek. Every step has been an effort with headaches coming and going. Arrival at camp coincided with a snow storm which made setting up camp, and I quote “interesting”. They will be having tea at 18:00 local time with a rest and then setting off in two groups at 23:30 and 24:00 for the summit.
